Policy regarding Political Candidates
SARCOA encourages Centers to have a good rapport with all public officials and candidates. Education Education on matters of current policy, referendums, and how the candidates stand on issues is important and we want all seniors to be well informed. However, SARCOA and its affiliated Senior Centers are to be nonpolitical and not endorse individual candidates for public office.
A. All qualified candidates for any public office will be allowed to speak at a Senior Center if it has been prearranged with a date, time, and place and must be advertised in the Senior Center (on the calendar, posted on a public info board) for several days in advance. Presentations are to be scheduled in advance so participants who do not want to participate do not feel forced to attend. For example, not during meal times.
B. All qualified candidates for any public office may arrange time with the Senior Center Director for an informal meet and greet at the facility, but it hsould not interrupt or disrupt scheduled activities.
C. Prior to any presentation, a statment must be communicated to the participants that a presentation by a political candidate does not mean the facility endorces the candidate.
